Lagos State Government sends 30 beggars to prison for constituting nuisance


The Special Offences Court in Alausa area of Ikeja has sent 30 beggars to Kirikiri and Badagry Prisons for soliciting for alms and other offences and were charged to court for constituting nuisance in public by begging for alms.
The court charges against the beggars included ;conducting themselves as disorderly persons without visible means of livelihood which is an offence under the criminal law of Lagos State.
The beggars were 39 in number but 9 were rejected as a result of their disabilities and take to Lagos State rehabilitation home, Majidun,Ikorodu Lagos, while the remaining 30 were sent to prison for one month till further notice.
Lagos State government says begging won't be tolerated anymore as offenders will be prosecuted.
